Our Story
How did we meet?
We met in Lincoln, Nebraska at Lazlo's Brewery & Restaurant on a chilly February evening, after connecting online a few days earlier. Ashley was new to town, having just started a post-doctoral fellowship at the university. She was a few minutes late, letting Chad wonder if he was going to get stood up. Luckily, Ashley found a place to park, made it to dinner, and so began a great evening of conversation of all the hard-hitting topics that you're normally supposed to avoid chatting about on a first date.
When and where was the proposal?
We got engaged on the back porch of our home in The Dalles, Oregon on July 4, 2022 during our annual Fourth of July party. Chad's goal was to catch Ashley off-guard and get the all-important hands over face moment of surprise. We were so fortunate to have friends and colleagues with us to share the news immediately following a very special moment together. Then just a few minutes later The Dalles set off its spectacular fireworks display for all to enjoy.
Where are you getting married?
The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum in The Dalles, Oregon will be hosting both our wedding ceremony and reception. We have enjoyed visiting and supporting the museum since we first visited back in 2018. Ashley has hosted many events there and we have both attended their annual fundraiser auction event. We are excited to be able to celebrate our love with all of you in such a beautiful venue.
The Dalles, Oregon is a small town nestled along the Columbia River on the east end of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. It is located approximately 85 miles east of Portland, Oregon, which is home to closest major airport in the area.
So where's the honeymoon?
We will be spending a week in Long Beach, Washington following the wedding. After a great celebration, we are looking forward to taking it easy, flying some kites and enjoying the sounds of the sea.
